Inherited Men's Ties - Make Memory Quilts, Memorial Pillows Or Just Wear Them
The passing of a loved one is very hard on friends and family. If the immediate family, extended family and friends get a chance to, they exchange fond memories of the deceased either by telephone, email or in person. Photographs from over the years are shared along with anecdotes of an occasion. Often a person is remembered by the clothing they wore to a social event such as christening, birthday or wedding. Accessories such as handbags, scarves and jewelry worn by a woman and a hat or necktie worn by a man stand out in a person's mind, especially if they were unusual or worn a lot by the person. This is why, when it comes to men, a necktie collection can hold special meaning. How can a person keep fond memories alive? By creating memory quilts and pillows from ties or by simply wearing the ties themselves at special functions or even every day.
Memorial Quilts
If you have a vast collection of neckwear, a memory quilt would be a great way to remember a person. Quilts can be large or small. If you don't know how to make one, there are many how to books available. If time is a consideration, perhaps another family member has the skills to make one to cover a bed. You can even hire people to create a quilt for you. Smaller quilts are perfect to hang on a wall. There are many wonderful patterns available for the choosing.
Memory Pillows
Maybe you only have a handful of ties or you have a bunch of ties and just as many people interested in having a memory of a loved one. Memory pillows are a perfect alternative. You can make a pillow from as few as 4 to 6 ties, so a lot can be created. They can be as big or as small as you like. They can square, rectangular, even circular. Again, the key is doing it yourself or having someone else do the sewing for you. You can break apart the tie in order to take out the lining and be left with only the material. This option gives you the most material, but silk especially can be a hard fabric to work with. I would recommend that the neckties not be taken apart but left intact instead. This way when they are sewn together, the internal lining keeps the tie from becoming misshapen and it gives the final pillow more body, even a quilted look if you will.
Inherit and Wear a Loved One's Neckwear
A school teacher friend of mine shared the story of a high school student whose grandfather had recently passed away. Among his belongings was a nice necktie collection which really appealed to the young man. He expressed an interest in the vintage ties and began wearing them to school out of love for someone who meant a great deal to him. It is truly one of the nicest ways to cherish the memories.
Memory quilts, memorial pillows and just plain wearing a loved one's neckwear are but three ways to keep the memories alive and to enjoy something functional which will hold special meaning for many years to come.

Ghesquière still making references to the house's past—a famous leaf-paneled dress of Cristobal's apparently influenced the cocooning shape of pied de coq coats; an antique clock in the Balenciaga atelier inspired a new range of watches—but this wasn't an "archive" show. Nor was it one of the designer's bold leaps into the future. The through lines here: a teddy boy-meets-punk masculinity (for the first time in his tenure at the house, Ghesquière showed creeper-ish flats); wet-looking, plasticized textures; and, once again, the places where the handmade and the technological meet. The last dress, for instance, was finished with couture techniques near the neckline, but a laser machine made the precision cut that separated the bodice from the skirt. The casting.: He opened with a trio of unknown girls with short, spiky hair that his team cast from the street, and he closed with the biggest super of them all, Gisele Bündchen. In between: Amber Valletta, Carolyn Murphy, and Stella Tennant—all of whom were very nearly bare-faced. "It was important not to disguise them. I didn't want clones," the designer said before the show."It's a reaction to a certain kind of sexiness," Ghesquière said. "It's about individuality." That's not necessarily so different from his thinking last season, but if Fall was conceptual, this produced some fantastic, utterly wearable (not just once-and-it's-over) clothes. The list is long and ranges from houndstooth outerwear with a graphic punch (the ...
